Typically... I find that people who are keen to talk themselves up do that because they feel inferior or insecure in themselves. What they seem to be looking for is some validation / support from the environment. Something along the lines of 'wow yes, your faith is pretty strong' and 'yes, i see, that is a very cool toy!'.

Narcissism. That might be the term you are looking for...
