Paul I appreciate the comment about the German word. I have also been lead to understand that it contains a sense of uniqueness as opposed to egocentric "specialness". Thus it may be that Adler in his choice of nomenclature indicates that the neurosis resides in "individual choices" as opposed to "exogenus influences". Would that also be a valid understanding? It is most unfortunate that the connotation of "individual" is so very different in English and that the term has been "transliterated" if there is such a word.
