Hey JimB, speaking of ill-mannered old women, I recently saw No Country for Old Men by the Coen bros. They always manage to make tight, unusual, and interesting flicks worth watching. If you have some time to kill, I think you’d enjoy it.

T. L. Jones is the weary old Texas sheriff—"It starts when you begin to overlook bad manners; anytime you quit hearin' 'sir' and 'ma'am,' the end is pretty much in sight"— pursuing a rather vicious personification of evil, played well by Javier Bardem.

Thanks for the book title...I've lots of material. And it fits with the notion that before and after reproductive years, women (and men) are true to their individual natures.
