Uproar at the Ellis Institute

If you read the New York Times or New York Post, you may have seen recent stories about a “coup” at the Albert Ellis Institute – Ellis has been ousted (at age 92), ostensibly because of excessive medical expenses, and has sued the Institute for reinstatement and damages.

According to a letter that Ray DiGiuseppe posted to a REBT listserv, the board of the Institute was forced to act because excessive benefits paid to Ellis threatened the non-profit status of the Institute. He says that the board has great admiration and respect for Ellis but that they must act to protect the future of the Institute.

Ellis (not surprisingly) sees things differently. For his side of the story, see http://www.albertellis.info/
